Enterprise Fair

Here we are selling our fantastic 'Red Nose Pot Plants' at the Enterprise Fair to raise money for Comic Relief.

We had a great time but more importantly we sold 102 plants at 50p each. That's an amazing £51.00 just from Kew Gardens Base!

We cant wait to find out how much we all raised!

Visit to a local garden.

As part of Enterprise week we have been learning about jobs that people do in gardens. We went to visit Mrs. Hinsley's garden. She is a gardener and she explained the many jobs she does in creating and managing people's gardens. The first part that impressed us was her eco friendly way of collecting rain water to water her plants. Then she showed us her compost bin; at the top were lots of food scraps and grass cuttings but at the bottom was wonderful dark rich compost which she digs back into the soil to feed the plants.

Mrs. Hinsley explained that people use their gardens for different reasons and she has to think carefully when planning their gardens to include spaces for eating out and entertaining, relaxation and playing, storage, growing fruit or vegetables, pets or wildlife and even drying the washing!
Mrs Hinsley has a favourite part of the garden for relaxing,

But we loved it all!

Thankyou Mrs. Hinsley!

Enterprise week

We are having an amazing week learning all about enterprise and earning a living!
Our aim is to make money to help Comic Relief' projects  working  towards the UNCRC vision that children everywhere should enjoy the Rights to safe homes, healthy food, water, medical needs and education.[articles 24, 28].
We are planning to use what we have learned in science about growing  and reproducing plants to make a huge selsction of plants to sell at the enterprise Fair. We are going to promote our preoduct by suggesting they will make ideal gifts for Easter or Mothering Sunday.
We are going to make them fun by adding eyes and red noses to the pots!

World Book Day

Here are a few snaps of our wonderful costumes on World Book Day!

We had a great time sharing our books and reading excerpts to our friends. We wrote book reviews. In the afternoon we looked at characters and made up brilliant new main characters. We all realised how much we love books and reading.

In assembly we remembered that there are still many children in the world who do not have books to learn from and enjoy. We heard about  UNICEF and their work towards achieving
UNCRC article 28 'All children have a right to primary education.Chidren should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level they can'

Plants and Gardens.

Our topic this half term is 'Plants and gardens'. We are so looking forward to Spring time and everything beginning to grow and flower again!
In our classroom we are making a garden centre and flower shop. We have also made a research area where we can go and find the answers to the questions we have raised.
Why are flowers different colours?   Why do some flowers smell nice?   Which plants can be eaten? Why do people have gardens?  Are plants and gardens different in other countries?   What do plants need to grow?    Why do trees grow so tall?     What can plants be used for?   Can plants grow anywhere?
